The Ringwood Board of Education
has its most difficult job in front of it. We must try to produce
a balanced budget with less funding than we ever expected. The
state took $1,000,000 and the borough took $417,000. Medical
payments for the 2010-2011 year are expected to go up by more than
$500,000. That puts us in a $2,000,000 hole before we sit down to
discuss possibilities. In addition, we will be restricted to a 2%
cap on increasing taxes. There is a very good chance that the
number of teachers will decrease and class sizes will increase.
This is the last thing that any school district wants to see, but we may
not have any other choice
This is old news, but so
important for board members to grasp:
So many dreams have been brought to your doorstep. Don't let
them lie there - Don't let them die there.
I've had that statement on this web site since its
inception. There is really not much more that can be said to
my fellow board members. All the educational dreams of the
parents and the community rest on the shoulders of the Ringwood
board members. Their decisions make or break the system.
